NOV/Devin Awards Freeman & Curiel Engineers a contract to design and supply a heavy lifting adaptor with 500 ton rating used in the derrick of an offshore well service rig. The adaptor saves time for the contractor and operator in service operations allowing the 750 ton rated traveling block and other rig equipment to stay in the derrick whether the operation calls for 750 or 500 lifting loads.
FCE designed the adaptor per API 8C industry requirement, “Drilling and Production Hoisting Equipment”, with its stringent design/testing safety factors and welding inspections. FCE utilized state of the art 3D modeling and drafting tools as well as finite element analysis of the complete assembly (adaptor, pins, etc.). The adaptor assembly was tested by an independent testing agency to 1,000 ton proof load. Non-destructive testing was performed on all welds before and after test.
